Emerging in New York\u2019s downtown underground scene in the late 1970s as a graffiti artist, Freddy became a bridge between the uptown rap scene and the downtown art community. As a member of the Brooklyn-based graffiti crew The Fabulous 5, he helped paint entire subway car sides and gradually transitioned into the broader art world.<\/p>\n<p>Freddy collaborated with underground filmmaker Charlie Ahearn on the influential 1983 film Wild Style, which highlighted emerging Hip-Hop culture and featured artist Lee Qui\u00f1ones. He co-produced the film, composed its original score, and appeared in a leading role. In the late 1980s, Freddy became the first host of the landmark Hip-Hop music video show Yo! MTV Raps and directed numerous iconic rap videos and films throughout the 1990s.
