Formed in 1979 in the South Bay area of Los Angeles, Circle Jerks quickly became one of the defining acts of American hardcore punk. After helping establish Black Flag and serving as its original vocalist during the recording of the Nervous Breakdown EP, Keith Morris teamed up with former Redd Kross guitarist Greg Hetson to create the band that would become Circle Jerks.<\/p>\n
While many hardcore bands of the era embraced a raw and uncompromising sound, Circle Jerks stood out through their focused songwriting, relentless energy, and sharp musical execution. Their music combined a powerful rhythm section with direct, often sarcastic and socially critical lyrics, earning them a reputation as one of the most influential and respected groups in the genre. Longtime bassist Zander Schloss has been part of the band since the 1980s, while drummer Joey Castillo rounds out the current lineup as its most recent addition.<\/p>\n
